Hand Built Ceramic Sculpture by Kiya Nancarrow
Kiya’s wonderfully twisted, rolled and wonderfully formed clay sculptures are of endless possibility in play on light, shadow and positive & negative space. “Clay is basically inert but can be persuaded to fly”, says Kiya. After over 20 years of playing/working with clay, I can imagine she can say that. For most ceramic artists, the challenge sees them looking at her pieces in awe.
‘Dig Deep’ has the white form in the heart of the object, with the dark outside wrapped around it, protecting it. It is sheltered from the elements.
